 EasyDSP

Some of EasyDSP's features

Text by Ulrich Bangert,  DF6JB

based on a MOTOROLA DSP56002 cpu.

44.2368 MHz cpu clock, will be faster with faster cpu versions available.

32 k Words of p-memory, 32 k Words of x-memory and 32 k Words of y-memory (completely independand of each other, no memory overlap) total  up to 288 k Byte of fast dsp memory (12 / 15 ns) for zero waitstate memory  access ( 1 word = 3 bytes ). Should handle even the biggest amateur radio dsp projects.

2 X 32 k Bytes flash boot eeprom, switch selectable with switch on front cover.

Changing the switch not only switches eeproms but also produces a cpu  reset, so cpu will boot from the newly choosen eeprom.

One of the boot eproms contains DF6JB monitor program, which makes the board very similar to use as a EVM board but adds the property that a cpu reset may be initiated via the RS232 and that any dsp program (as .LOD file) may then be downloaded and started via the RS232.

That is: Load & run your application programs over the same RS232  that is then be used to communicate between dsp and pc application.

No program load over OnCe port necessary.

Second boot eprom contains modified version of ALEF NUL's boot software  for their DSP CARD 4.

In this mode EasyDSP runs as a 1:1 replica of a DSP CARD 4.

Run every DSP CARD 4 software with no modification or with little  modifications if it is expected to make use of the automatic radio port level setting (see next 5 paragraphs for explanation of that).

4 radio ports, each equipped with audio in/out, ptt, up, down, cat in  and cat out pins.

Led shows the radio port in use. Radio port in use is stored in eeprom,  will be the same after turning off and on again.

Radio port may be switched by hand or under dsp program control.

Current radio port may be read by dsp program.

8 pol DIN connectors as radio ports, will handle TNC like 5 pin  connectors.

Nominal input voltage: 1 V eff or 2.8V pp, may be increased by up to 22.5 dB in 1.5 dB steps

Nominal output voltage: 2.1 V eff or 5.9 V pp, may be attenuated by up to 93.5 dB in 1.5 dB steps

Input gain / output attenuation setting (as told about above) is stored  individual for each radio port in a eeprom by means of a simple setup  program.

Once you've done that, you always have the perfect audio levels for all  receivers / transceivers at the radio ports, no matter which modem you use at which port.

Each and every signal going in or out the box is carefully filtered  with MURATA lcl- filters.

Double shielded enclosure.

Analogue and digital circuitry completely apart from each other and  each inside it's own exclusive shielded enclosure.

Nice & solid enclosure produced by LANSING, U.S.A.

Features a serial OncE-port as the one to be found on a DSP56002EVM  board.

Connect to a pc and run all EVM debugger software without anx change.

OnCe port connector on the front cover: Write your application without taking EasyDSP out of the bookshelf.

OnCE port has a DEBUG led and a PLL led as to be found on EVM board.

In addition has a ACTIVITY led which is lit when the cpu runs in realtime but otherwise under the control of the debugger.

Full featured RS232 connector on the back side.

RS232 has all necessary status inputs and outputs to be a exact 1:1  counterpiece for a pc's RS232.

Will handle even the most exotic communication procedures.

7.3728 MHz cpu xtal clock ensures standard RS232 baud rates, no matter which PLL multiplication factor used.

EasyDSP is a ready-made device.

Pcbs and hard to get parts like the programmed gals and  microcontrollers are available from DF6JB.

No complete kits! And no guaranty you manage to produce a working  device out of it.

Before even thinking about a kit judge yourself: Did you ever handle a electronic device packed in a 132 plastic quad flat pack enclosure? With pins as close that you need a magnifying glass to see the space between  them and as thin that a wrong blink with the eye may bend them?

If you know the dos and donts of such devices i will be happy to supply  you parts, otherwise i suggest to buy a ready-made one.

Price information for ready-made: DEM 1100.00 incl. software on cd-r,  German tax and first class (air) transport into any place in Europe. For air transport outside Europe please add DEM 40.00. Sorry, at the moment i  cannot accept credit card, hpe to change that in the near future.
